The Cleanest Diapers on the Planet
If I were to have another baby (or when I do), I most definitely plan on doing things differently. The main change that I would make would be the elimination of disposable diapers.
Blueberry Diapers, founded by mom Margarita McClure, turned me on to the idea of leaving behind the "convenience" of disposable diapers and switching to a safer, healthier and environmental-friendlier organic cotton cloth diapers.
There are many statistics that point to the growing problem facing our environment. Did you know that it takes (on average) between 250 - 500 years for disposable diapers to decompose?
How about the fact that the liners in disposable diapers still contain sodium polyacrylate, the same substance that was removed from tampons over twenty years ago!
I also had no idea that diapers are made from petroleum by-products. Add to that the cost to families during the diapering years ($2,000 - $2,500) and it just makes a whole lot of sense to start changing our habits within our homes.
Since babies are so much more vulnerable to toxic exposure, McClure set out on a mission to create the cleanest diaper on the planet. She did so with both Swaddlebees and Blueberry Diapers - free of bleach, chlorine or pesticides.
Swaddlebees are made of organic cotton and are designed with fun and whimsical patterns (from zebra print to blue latte). Over 32 designs are available on line as well as diaper covers and accessories.

Babies In Bloom
This morning I attended a networking event put together by the owner of Babies in Bloom, a family owned business dedicated to helping new parents by providing products, classes and resources on breastfeeding and lending support to growing families.

I am pleased to announce that parenting workshops will be scheduled at their location this summer and beyond, so check back often for view their calendar of events.
There were several wonderful women-owned businesses that I also was able to discover, including MKP Images, a photographer who has beautiful images, secret locations for unique photo shoots and fantastic products such as purses, handbags and photo cards that are quite unlike anything I've come across so far.
Three Sisters Jewelry Design (by zoe) had their beautiful pieces of wearable art on display, as did Jack & Jill Cards, creator of custom greeting cards, invitations, announcements and thank you cards.
For new and expecting parents, several women were there offering their services, support and educational opportunities: HypnoBirthing, The Real Diaper Association, CrunchCare, and Not to Worry.
Please check out these local businesses when looking for quality, independent resources that support and cater to growing families.

Parenting Party Sponsor - NABI BABY
Who said safety can't be hip and fun?
My favorite:

The iddie biddie one-piece is a miniature cotton baby one-piece that hangs by suction cup on the inside of your car window to let everyone know your little one is on board.
Check out all the different iddie biddie designs and other cool stuff at Nabi Baby.
My favorite:
The creative text on the front adds an amusing element, but the shape of the garment allows motorists to immediately recognize that a baby or toddler is on board and reminds them to drive safely.
The variety of colors and designs will be raffled off at the upcoming Parenting Party. Don't miss it!

fawn and forest
I would love to have another baby, just so I have an excuse to buy these beautifully designed products that I didn't know about the first time around. No, really. I would love to have another baby...eventually. Now, if or when that actually does happen, I'd have to actually find a way to afford these things. For now, I'll add them to my Baby's Registry list and think of ways to make some money in the meantime....donations anyone?
Seriously. Wouldn't you love to own these beautifully designed products for your little one?

mini bent ply stand

doodle drawer desk
(My son has this desk and we both adore it.
He colors or eats his snacks there, uses it to put together puzzles or watch TV.
It was definitely worth every penny.
And it was easy to put together, too.)
